A Complete Guide to the medx back machine

Arthur Jones came to a realization in 1986: there was no line of perfect strength-training machines on the market to appropriately isolate and strength train spinal muscles. Arthur Jones founded Nautilus and in the 1970’s and in the 1980’s his machines transformed the health club industry. Even though his machines were loved by many and were still selling like hot cakes, he was no longer satisfied with the quality and function. He decided it was time to sell his company and start something new. And so began his long journey to build the perfect line of strength training machines. He decided his new company would be called Medx because he wanted this equipment to be backed by medical research and be the gold standard of physical therapy and rehabilitation. His first endeavor with his new company was to build the perfect Medx back machine.

Lower back pain is a multiple billion dollar industry in the United States alone.

Eighty percent of all people will experience lower back pain in their lifetime. Precision exercise is one of the best ways to address back pain, but unfortunately the lower back is a notoriously difficult area to train properly due to the poor design of most lower back machines. Specifically, most lower back machines do not fully isolate the muscles of the lumbar spine. Without proper isolation, these muscles tend to become weak and atrophied over the course of a lifetime. This atrophy and muscle weakness can lead to a break down in the discs and facet joints of the lumbar spine. So Arthur was on a mission. And his mission was not cheap or fast to realize. In fact, it took years of research, trial and error, and millions of dollars, out of his own pocket, for him to eventually get it right.

Thanks to Authur’s vision and persistence, the Medx Lumbar Extension machine was born. Boasting a frictionless weight stack, micro weight progressions, and a restraint system to immobilize the hips and pelvis, true isolation of the lumbar spine muscles was finally achievable. That was over 30 years ago and Medx is still considered the gold standard for spinal rehabilitation exercise, and 75 articles of clinical published research back it up. The Medx Lumbar Extension machine changed the game for muscle restoration and back rehabilitation.

But Arthur Jones did not stop there. Using the same technology used to develop the Medx Lumbar Extension machine, his company moved on to build more core fitness restoration machines including Medx machines to target and isolate the abdominal muscles and to target and isolate the neck muscles. This line of Medx machines is called the Core Line. These machines are beyond incredible for isolating and strengthening the muscles of the core, inducing the lumbar and cervical and abdominal systems.

At Austin Muscle Restoration we have the full line of Medx core equipment to help with restoration of the muscles of the abdomen, neck and spine. We frequently see acute, chronic and traumatic injuries to the spine, neck, abdomen and pelvic floor, so we invested in the Medx Core line so our clients have access to the absolute best machines available for exercised based spinal and core rehabilitation.

We are so grateful that Arthur Jones was not satisfied with good enough, and strove for perfection when it comes to exercise based rehabilitation. We are so appreciative that he was committed to making the best possible equipment. No exercise machine is actually perfect, but the Medx core line is pretty darn close.
